The recontextualization of the Archives of Repression and reparations to victims of the Brazilian Dictatorship

Article authored by Eneá de Stutz e Almeida; and Luciana Silva Garcia

ABSTRACT: This article aims to reflect on the use of the archives produced by the repressive organs of the Brazilian Civil-Military Dictatorship as instruments to ensure rights won with the promulgation of the 1988 Federal Constitution, in particular the right to reparation granted by Law n. 10.559 of 2002. Documents that previously served to incriminate, today serve to prove the political persecution suffered by militants opposed to the regime. For this purpose, it will have as object of analysis the application for amnesty with the Amnesty Commission application filed by Theodomiro Romeiro dos Santos, a former political prisoner, granted by the Ministry of Justice on September 20, 2011.
